Amber’s Dream Car Build

Amber's Dream 38 Chevy at Cabin Fever 2010
Amber DesRoches was just 11 years old when leukemia took her life in the days preceding Christmas 2007. In time and despite unbearable grief and sorrow, Amber’s family couldn’t help but remember how the teenager often talked about transforming the children’s hospital at Medcenter One. When she wasn’t telling someone what she envisioned for children who would be hospitalized after her, she penciled her thoughts in her journal.
After her passing, “Amber’s Dream” was given life. In support of “Amber’s Dream,” an expansion, renovation and redecorating of the children’s hospital at Medcenter One, the Pioneer Auto Club has partnered with the Medcenter One Foundation to spearhead the restoration of a 1938 Chevy Sedan. Local businessman, Peter Deichert, donated the two-door vintage sedan to the Foundation. Upon completion, slated for early 2010, the car will be raffled off by members of the club with proceeds benefiting the children’s unit at the hospital.
Dale Speckmann, owner of Dale’s Auto Restoration, is overseeing the build project. The 1938 Chevy will have a stock look and interior with custom paint and a modern drive train. Costs for this build are approximately $48,000. The Medcenter One Foundation and Pioneer Auto Club members, through the leadership of Project Coordinator Tom Freidt, are currently seeking both in-kind materials and cash donations to assist with the restoration project.

It is estimated that the car will be ready for raffle in 2010, and will be awarded to one lucky winner at the Meddy Bear Car Show in September 2010. The car will be on display at the Mandan City Wide Cabin Fever Indoor Car Show 2010.
